The Master Rug Weavers Passion of Persia

The proper restoration and repair of a Persian rug is incredibly critical to maintain or even improve it's value. If your Persian rug is missing a corner, an edge, is torn or has a gaping hole worn in it, there are many things that we can do. We have the ancient skills required to rebuild and weave corners, edges tears and holes back to new condition, holes can have new warps and wefts foundations installed, and new Persian rug wool can be knotted in.

We can even repair damage from cigar and cigarette burns with re-knotting as well. This work can be a little costly, but is worth the expense because it maintains the ever-increasing value of your Persian rug, and is much less expensive then trying to find and replace your Persian rug from your local reputable dealer. Restoration of the Persian rug pile or repair of holes should only by done by a Master Weaver who understands the intricate structure of Persian weaving and it's internal foundations. It is always better to have the Persian rug re-knotted than to have it "painted." Although painting is a quick fix (and very inexpensive), it can cause permanent damage to the Persian rug and will reduce the overall value of your piece.

The process of reweaving a hole is complex. First, the Persian rug must be cleaned, and then the broken foundation fiber must be repaired and extended to make it able to reweave. These Persian hand spinned, hand dyed wool threads are then sewn into the hole in the exact pattern and density as the foundation. Warp for warp, weft for weft, and knot for knot. Once the Persian rug foundation is rebuilt, the Master weaver is always able to mimic the pattern of the rug, one knot at a time in order to rebuild the design so that the repair is not noticeable. The alternative to this type of work is to take a patch from another Persian rug and have it sewn in. If the color matches well, and the design is appropriate, it becomes almost invisible, as long as you aren't looking for it. Applying a patch in a rug, or doing a full restoration is only possible if the area around the hole is in fairly good condition. If the pile isn't thick enough, it might be impossible to hide the stitching. We can give you the best advice in regards to major Persian rug repairs and restoration.
